Synopsis[]

Three weeks until the regional tournament, Coach Shida proposes new choreography to boost the team's difficulty score to make them more competitive. Onigawa injures his foot, but he appears injured in more than one way. Misato takes it upon himself to tend to Onigawa's needs.

Plot Summary[]

Shotaro narrates that he is now roommates with Misato, who keeps his side of the room meticulous. Watari now rooms with Onagawa. With 3 weeks until the regional tournament, Coach Shida asks if they are ready to take first place. Misato states that he does not believe they are capable enough for first place. Coach Shida agrees and suggests that they change their choreography to increase the difficulty of their routine to be able to score higher.

While walking across the street, Onagawa is nearly hit by a moped and twists his ankle. He explains to the team that he was told it will takes at least 2 weeks to recover. Coach Shida tells him to rest well until he is recovered in every way. The team members go to great lengths to care for Onagawa to the point that he calls them all mothers hens. Shotaro and Misato check on Onagawa to find him dancing to pop music. Misato asks if he is faking his injury, and Onagawa begs them not to tell anyone else. Misato agrees so long as Onagawa keeps up the act 24/7, though he struggles to do such. Misato moves into Onagawa's room to better care for him.

Comments made by Coach Shida (namely, his repeatedly saying that he wants Onagawa better in every way) make Onagawa wonder if the coach knows that he is faking. Onagawa overheard Shichigahama talking to Tsukidate that the team would not be where they are now without Onagawa. Shichigahama insists that all 6 of them will be going to the tournament.

Going to bed, Misato asks Onagawa if he has mentally worked out whatever he needs to. Onagawa says not yet. Misato asks if this relates to the mistake that Onagawa made during the last performance, and asks if it is something he did. Onagawa is surprised that Misato would think he is responsible. Misato asks if it is because he moved into the dorm, which required him to have a roommate. Onagawa asks Misato if it is this guilt that brought him to go along with the lie.

Onagawa explains that he, Shichigahama, and Tsukidate, have all known each other since childhood, and he came to tag along with whatever they did. He wanted to become the team's Ace, but he continually falls short and cannot compete with Misato. Misato says that he never wanted to be an Ace, that he merely wanted to soar, like Coach Shida, and inspire others to soar. Misato says that he admires Onagawa, but only as it pertains to his tumbling.

The next day, Onagawa goes running with Misato and Shotaro. Onagawa tells the team that he is ready to return to practice, and while he will not be able to be the team's Ace in time for the tournament, he aims to become the Ace in 4 weeks. Coach Shida shows the team the new choreography, which will require a higher difficulty from Shotaro and Misato. Shotaro is excited, but Misato gives a blank expression as he looks at the proposed jump.
