Masamune Shichigahama (七ヶ浜 政宗, Shichigahama Masamune) is a character in Bakuten!!. He is the captain of the Ao High School boys' rhythmic gymnastics team who is currently in his third year of high school.

Biography

Masamune first became interested in gymnastics after first seeing their current coach, Shusaku Shida, performing gymnastics himself. He is now the captain of Ao High School's men's rhythmic gymnastics club. His specialty is freehand exercises, routines that require no special apparatus.

He is a childhood friend of Keisuke Tsukidate and Nagayoshi Onagawa.

Appearance

Masamune has very short red hair with a maroon-colored undercut. His eyes are a yellow color.

He wears his tracksuit unzipped all the way outside of the gym or the clubroom. His practice attire normally includes a red tank top and dark blue shorts. His casual clothing can be described as "smart casual."

Personality

Masamune is a passionate and enthusiastic captain who is shown as being incredibly proactive in leading the rhythmic gymnastics club and its members.

Although he has a burning love for gymnastics, he has no knack for teaching it, and his teaching methods involve vague descriptions of gymnastics moves and sounds associated to them.

He dislikes when his club is undermined, evident when he becomes angered whenever Nagayoshi Onagawa makes underhanded comments about their club or school.

Etymology

• The name Masamune means "government" (政) (masa) and "religion, sect, denomination, main point, origin, essence" (宗) (mune). Altogether, it can be interpreted as "the strength of the team", tying into his personality and role as captain.
• Masamune's surname Shichigahama means "seven" (七) (shichi) and "beach, seashore" (浜) (hama).

Trivia

• Masamune's family runs a long-established sasa kamaboko shop, a dish specialty of the Miyagi prefecture. It consists of bamboo leaves (笹) (sasa) and a white-fleshed fish cake (蒲鉾/かまぼこ) (kamaboko).
